Finally! Rain!

I never thought I'd be so excited for rain, but we were about to melt and desperately needed a break from the heat. To make it even worse, poor Sport is on week 2 of the cone and can't get to food and water himself. It was so dangerously hot that we had to constantly offer him cups of water.

The rain has significantly cooled things down around here. We took advantage of the wet day to stock up on books at the library and to do some crafts with Francie.

Ben's Puzzle Masterpiece

Although this 3-D puzzle began as Ben's project, we all became addicted.

In the early stages.

We stayed up late to finish.

Oil City - Titusville Train

A ride on the OC&T (Oil City and Titusville) train is the perfect activity for a rainy day. The three hour ride took us through a lush, beautiful valley that was home to the first oil well. That first working oil well, in 1859, led to an oil boom in the area. It's hard to believe that the peaceful area was once an active, vibrant community.

The gang's all here!

An inside view of one of the train cars.

The kids on the open air car.

A view of the river that carried barges holding barrels of oil.
