Travel Channel Filming at Conneaut Lake Park

Poor, run-down Conneaut Lake Park may finally be getting the facelift it deserves. This week, the Travel Channel is filming the pilot episode of an amusement park makeover show at Conneaut Lake Park. We were signed up to volunteer, but the darn show ended up changing everything around and our shifts were canceled. We did next best thing and stopped by to check it out.

As far as we could tell, Monday morning was mostly spent filming 'before' shots. When we arrived around 1:00, the renovation on The Devil's Den had started. It looks like it's going to become a cave theme. Not sure how that's going to turn out, or if the 'Infamous Gum Wall' will survive.

The Devil's Den is one of only two surviving rides of it's type, though we're not sure what that type is. We think it's some sort of 'dark ride'.

The only other action we could see was the construction of a haunted house on the Midway. We can't wait to see the results during Saturday's reveal.

Brrrrrr.....

It's been cold at the lake. With highs in the 70's, we haven't had much beach time. Despite the weather, Midway Beach is still beautiful.

Amish Dinner

Local Amish communities often have dinners to fundraise for their schools or medical costs. Last night we drove to Andover, Ohio for an Amish dinner to benefit the Amish school. Dinner included ham, meatloaf, peas, mashed potatoes, noodles, salad, white bread, pies and home made ice cream. The dinner was held at 'Noah Yoder's farm'.

We're Finally Here!

Wow, what a late start to our summer at the lake this year! We are finally here and are enjoying every minute of it. The wait was worth it - Ben spent a month at an Architecture workshop at Cal Poly in California so we waited for him to finish before heading back. Well, almost all of us waited. Kate and Will got impatient and flew out early. By the time Ben and I got here, family had arrived from all across the country and summer activities were in full swing. We've been here since Tuesday. I haven't even turned my big camera on once and have only taken a handful of iPhone pictures. In a nutshell, though...it's been chilly, we had a huge storm, went to Campbell Pottery (above), went to the beach, tried a great new lunch place in town, had the annual scavenger hunt and s'mores night, and talked and talked and talked.

On a not-so-positive note, my mom fell yesterday, sprained her ankle and is now in a splint and using crutches. Hopefully it's only for a few days. Below - scavenger hunt and s'mores.
