Summer Cookout

A few times each summer we have have an old-fashioned cookout and roast hot dogs on an open fire. This particular cookout happened to also be a birthday celebration for our son. Relatives J. and Uncle B. even brought sundae fixings and two blenders to make blended 'adult' ice cream drinks. Read below for the recipe of our favorite drink - the Rum Banana Cooler.

I must have been too busy drinking the delicious adult blended drinks to get any pictures. J. and B. made two ice cream drinks, a Rum Banana Cooler and a Blended Strawberry Cooler. Both were delicious, be we all agreed that the Banana was our favorite. Here's the recipe so you can try for yourself...

Rum Banana Cooler

3 jiggers creme de banana
3 jiggers light rum
3 cups ice cream (they used Hank's banana frozen custard, but you could use vanilla ice cream)
1 cup milk
1 cup ice cubes
2 whole bananas

Blend all ingredients in a blender and enjoy!

Eddie's Footlong Hotdogs in Meadville

We are attempting to get our visiting relatives to every must-see spot during their week in Conneaut Lake. Tonight's plan included a visit to two local favorites: Eddie's Footlong and Hanks. Eddie's serves just what the names says - Footlong Hot Dogs. Nothing fancy in the atmosphere, but definitely charming, clean and old-fashioned fun. The sign boasts that this is the 61st year for Eddie's Footlong. The hot dog stand was started by Eddie and Winkie Johnson and is now being operated by the 3rd generation of family members. Hank's deserves its own post, so check back later in the week for those pictures!
