Hank's Frozen Custard in Conneaut Lake

People are passionate about Hank's frozen custard! It's about the only place around where you can expect to wait in line. Little has changed since it opened in 1952. My husband remembers flavors to be the same as when he was a child. Each day they serve vanilla, chocolate, a sherbet and the flavor of the day. Frozen custard, if you haven't had it, is similar to soft serve ice cream. The machines used at Hank's are the original machines from when the shop opened. My personal favorite treat at Hank's is the Hot Turtle: vanilla frozen custard topped with hot fudge, hot caramel and salted pecans.

You order from the girls (always girls!) at the window. The girls never write down the orders, but always get them correct.

A (blurry) inside view of Hank's. Girls take your order, but the guys work the machines. The old machines are finicky and require a lot of attention.

My husband and son love to get the sherbet and vanilla on a cone. A sort of creamsicle...

Enjoying our treat...

Thanks for your blog; we haven't been back to Meadville since our mother died 5 years ago. We grew up with Hanks and the Lake and all..just like your husband I guess. So the memories from looking at this site are great. Thanks.
